Who Should Wait or Skip TCA Cross

Honesty first: TCA Cross isn't for everyone. You should wait or choose a different path if any of these apply — we'll screen for all of them at your free consultation:

• Active acne breakouts or any active skin infection in the treatment area
• A history of keloid scarring — tell us, so we can plan safely
• Recent use of isotretinoin (Accutane) — your skin needs recovery time first
• A fresh tan or recent heavy sun exposure on the areas to be treated
• Pregnancy or nursing — we'll talk through timing together

Your Fitzpatrick Skin Type Matters

Your Fitzpatrick type (I–VI) tells us how your skin responds to treatments like TCA Cross. Deeper skin tones have a higher chance of temporary darkening (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) at the treated spots. This doesn't rule TCA Cross out — it means the strength, spacing, and aftercare are chosen carefully for you, and daily SPF 50 is non-negotiable during healing.

Before Your TCA Cross Treatment: Do's & Don'ts

Do

• Come to your free consultation with a list of any medications and your scar history
• Tell us about cold sores, keloids, or past reactions to peels
• Avoid tanning the treatment areas in the weeks before

Don't

• Don't pick or squeeze at scars before your appointment — irritated skin has to wait
• Don't use strong retinoids or exfoliating acids on the area in the days before (we'll confirm timing)
• Don't book with an active breakout — we'll reschedule to a better week

After Your TCA Cross Treatment: Do's & Don'ts

Right after treatment you'll see tiny white spots (frosting) where each scar was treated. Over the next several days these become small dark scabs that fall off on their own.

Do

• Let the tiny scabs fall off naturally — usually within 5 to 7 days

• Wear SPF 50 every day, even indoors — sun is the enemy of healing scars
• Keep the treated spots clean and hands off

Don't

• Don't pick, peel, or scrub the scabs — picking is how marks linger
• Don't wear heavy makeup on the treated spots for the first couple of days
• Don't tan, sauna, or do heavy sweaty workouts until the scabs are gone

TCA Cross Downtime, Honestly

Expect 5 to 7 days of tiny dark scabs at each treated scar. They look like small dots and are easy to cover once they flatten, but the honest timeline is about a week before the spots look like plain skin again. Sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart so your skin can build collagen between visits.
