Skin Resurfacing Aftercare Guide: Houston's Complete Recovery Plan
You just had a skin resurfacing treatment at Tu Es Belle Spa — congratulations on committing to smoother, brighter, more even-toned skin. Skin resurfacing works by removing damaged outer layers so healthier, newer skin can take their place, and the days following your treatment are critical to your results. What you do (and don't do) during this window determines how well your skin heals and how radiant your final glow looks.
This is the complete post-treatment care guide our Medical Esthetician gives every skin resurfacing client at our Galleria/Uptown Houston spa. Whether you had a CO2 laser session, laser skin resurfacing, or another resurfacing treatment, follow this guide closely.
Do's: What to Follow
Lemon-infused water — hydrate and support your body's natural detoxification.
Green tea-infused water — an antioxidant boost that helps calm inflammation and support healing.
Clean, healthy meals — whole foods, lean proteins, and antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables to support skin repair from the inside out.
SPF 50 daily for life. Reapply every 2 hours, even on cloudy days. We recommend Epionce Daily Shield Lotion Tinted SPF 50 — it's what we apply at the spa. Sun protection after resurfacing is not optional.
Apply Aquaphor to lips every night to prevent cracking and dryness.
Apply eye cream nightly to keep the delicate eye area hydrated and comfortable.
Layer hyaluronic acid with aloe vera in the morning, and hyaluronic acid with Aquaphor in the evening for continuous hydration through the healing window.
Cleanse with a mild cleanser and cold water morning and night — no scrubbing, no hot water, no harsh cleansers.
Keep your skin clean at all times. Gently pat dry, never rub.
Wash your hands before touching your face. Bacteria is one of the biggest risks during resurfacing recovery.
Change pillowcases and sheets frequently — every 2 to 3 days minimum during recovery.
Clean your phone, hands, and glasses regularly — anything that touches your face.
Clean makeup brushes regularly to prevent bacteria buildup once you're cleared to use them again.
Don'ts: What to Avoid
No foundation or concealer for 7 days. Let your skin breathe and heal.
No alcohol for 7 days. Alcohol dehydrates the skin and slows healing.
No spicy or hot foods. These can trigger inflammation and increase redness.
No sauna, steam, or workouts. Avoid sweating for the full recovery window.
No chlorine or pools. Harsh chemicals will damage healing skin.
No sun exposure or tanning beds. UV exposure during recovery can cause hyperpigmentation and undo your results.
No harsh skincare. Now is not the time to experiment.
No active ingredients — retinol, vitamin C, AHAs, or BHAs — for 3 to 5 days minimum.
Avoid all makeup for at least 7 days.
Fitzpatrick Skin Type and Resurfacing Aftercare
Your Fitzpatrick skin type (I through VI) affects how your skin heals after resurfacing. Skin types IV through VI (olive to dark) are at higher risk for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation during healing. If you have a darker skin type, your Medical Esthetician may recommend gentler resurfacing and extended aftercare, including longer SPF protection and specialized healing products. Always disclose your full skin history during consultation so your aftercare plan is customized to your skin type.

Why Skin Resurfacing Aftercare Matters
Skin resurfacing treatments work by controlled removal of damaged outer skin layers, triggering your body to produce fresh, healthier skin in its place. During this renewal window, your skin is more vulnerable to sun damage, bacteria, and irritation — but also more absorbent and rebuilding at an accelerated rate. Following the aftercare plan protects the investment you made in your treatment and ensures you get the full benefit — smoother texture, brighter tone, reduced pigmentation, and long-lasting radiance.
At Tu Es Belle Spa, our Medical Esthetician at Tu Es Belle Spa customizes each aftercare plan based on the specific resurfacing treatment you received. Follow your personalized plan closely.
Products We Recommend During Recovery

- Aloe Vera gel — morning calming layer
- Aquaphor — evening moisture lock and lips
- Eye cream — nightly
- Mild, non-stripping cleanser — cold water only
Ask us at your appointment which specific Epionce products are right for your skin type and treatment.
FAQ: Skin Resurfacing Aftercare in Houston
Q: How long does it take to fully heal from skin resurfacing?
A: Most clients see visible healing within 7 to 10 days, with sensitivity resolving over 10 to 14 days. Deeper resurfacing may require longer. Individual results may vary based on treatment depth and skin type.
Q: When can I wear makeup again after skin resurfacing?
A: Avoid all makeup for at least 7 days. Your Medical Esthetician will give you the exact timeline based on your specific treatment.
Q: Is it normal for my skin to feel tight or dry after resurfacing?
A: Yes. Tightness and dryness in the first 24 hours are completely normal. Layer hyaluronic acid and Aquaphor to keep the skin comfortable and hydrated.
Q: Can I use my regular skincare after skin resurfacing?
A: Not for the first several days. Stick to gentle cleanser, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, Aquaphor, and SPF 50 only. Reintroduce active ingredients gradually and only after your esthetician clears you.
Q: Why is SPF so critical after skin resurfacing?
A: Freshly resurfaced skin is extremely vulnerable to UV damage, which can cause hyperpigmentation and undo your treatment results. SPF 50 every 2 hours during recovery, and daily for life.
